Bela Lugosi was an actor who made vampires famous in the 1930's film 'Dracula', and the dark persona he created inspired the name of this Daylily with its deep purple, almost black coloring. The blooms are very large, often over 6 inches across, and the color impact is maximized by the broad, spreading petals and the good branching of the scapes, which shows off the blooms to best advantage. Later blooms will sometimes assume contrasting white edges, like the silver lining of back-lit thunderclouds.
